WELCOME! We are overjoyed at the opportunity to meet and serve the families of our parish cluster and beyond for the 2024-2025 Faith Formation year. No matter if you are a returning family, have been away from the parish/faith formation program for a while, or are brand new to the parish cluster, we are so happy that you have made the choice to entrust your children to us and form a partnership where we can spread the love and joy of the gospel together. Please find a brief overview of our program below. *NEW* FAITH FORMATION As we take a new approach to growing in our faith this year, you may notice a slight change in verbiage from "religious education" to "faith formation". What's the difference, you ask? Religious education implies more of a traditional classroom setting, whereas faith formation encompasses ALL ages (from infants to adults), bringing everyone together to learn, share and participate in the Catholic Church, and grow closer in relationship with Jesus Christ. Faith Formation means that we are always learning through the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, prayer, and God's presence in our lives. This year, we want to embark on this journey even more so to grow and to strengthen our faith foundation. The calendar will refer to different days/nights as listed below, followed by a detailed description of each category.
FAMILY MASS - The first SUNDAY of the month will be our Family/Youth Mass during the 8:30am Mass at St. Peter, Cameron. Each month, youth from our program will be assisting with various parts of the Mass (Reader, Cantor, Usher, etc.). Family formation will immediately follow. **A light breakfast will be provided following Mass.
FAMILY FORMATION - First Sunday of the month. Family Formation is a catechesis program which promotes parents as the primary educators of their children in the Catholic faith. Through lessons, games, Bible stories, music, etc., the faith is brought to life within the family. The materials are engaging, hands-on, and easy to understand! The presentation style of this program has parents gather for a session while children are in their own separate session. Parents are taught about the monthly theme through engaging speakers, Q&A/small group discussions, skits, fellowship and praise & worship. The presentation will also walk parents through at-home activities to continue the conversation as a family throughout the month and help each other grow in their faith. Children will meet in a small group classroom setting with a faith formation teacher and 'unpack' the month's topic through Bible stories, games, activities, & more.
CHILDREN'S FORMATION - Students in 1st-10th grades will meet the first and second WEDNESDAYS of the month for a grade-level, small group (similar to our style of faith formation/religious education last year). Coordinating the Wednesday lessons with the Family Formation topics helps our brains retain the information and increase our chances of remembering it. A multitude of curriculums and teaching resources will be used for these classes including:
1st-5th grades: Alive in Christ parish curriculum 6th-7th grades: Encounter Bible Study - *NEW* - Students will journey through the Bible in a fun & engaging new way! 8th-10th grades: Faith Fusion, Decision Point confirmation prep curriculum
PK/KINDERGARTEN FORMATION - For our youngest disciples-in-training, we would like to introduce an option of faith formation that follows the Sunday Mass called Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW). Children would gather for an age-appropriate experience of sacred scripture. CLOW would be offered during the 8:30am Mass at St. Peter most weekends throughout the year. Children will hear God's word in a joyful and engaging environment. Children are dismissed after the opening prayer & gather in a classroom to hear the readings and reflect on the gospel. The children then return to the church during the offering. We would love to get this ministry off and running, but we need the willing hearts of volunteers to make it happen. We have two specific needs: 1) Catechist, to lead the worship time with the provided outline. 2) Shepherds, to provide supervision and extra helping hands...this could be a great option for middle or high school students to lend a helping hand & service hours for their confirmation. The time commitment is minimal, but high in reward. If you feel called to help with this ministry, please contact Mindy Hamilton to discuss more in detail.
FAITH IN ACTION - PK-10th grade families will meet the third Wednesday of the month. Families will come together to put our 'faith into action' in our parish, community, and the world through various service projects, volunteer options, mission trips, etc. just to name a few! Mother Teresa said, "Faith in action is love, and love in action is service. By transforming that faith into living acts of love, we put ourselves in contact with God Himself, with Jesus our Lord."
ADULT FORMATION - As we are continually being formed in our faith, our prayer for adult formation is to offer a variety of faith forming programs and opportunities for adults to explore their faith more deeply and grow in relationship with God through experiences, prayer reflection, Bible studies, etc. More information will be made available when events/opportunities are planned.
